Y12SR

Yoga of 12-Step Recovery

Where the wisdom of 12-Step recovery meets the healing power of yoga — supporting the whole person, body, mind, and spirit.

What Is Y12SR?

Created in 2003 by Nikki Myers, Y12SR (Yoga of 12-Step Recovery) brings together the wisdom of 12-Step recovery and the practices of yoga to support healing of the whole person—body, mind, and spirit. The program recognizes that addiction can create disconnection from ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us, and that recovery involves more than changing behaviors. It also involves learning to reconnect with ourselves and others.  Each class combines a supportive sharing circle with an intentional, themed yoga practice incorporating movement, breathwork, mindfulness, and meditation. Together, these practices offer tools for navigating emotions, building self-awareness, and supporting recovery in everyday life.

Who Is Welcome?

There Is Space for You Here

Y12SR is open to anyone whose life has been touched by addiction — whether through personal experience, family, friends, relationships, or the wider community.

Whether you are navigating your own recovery, supporting someone you care about, healing from the effects of addiction, or simply seeking greater balance, connection, and well-being in your life, you are welcome here. All genders and experience levels are welcome. No yoga experience or particular stage of recovery is required.

Y12SR is designed to complement — not replace — other recovery support, including 12-Step meetings, sponsorship, counselling, or treatment. It offers a space to move, breathe, connect, and explore recovery in community.

Come move. Breathe. Connect. Recover. Thrive.

What to Expect

Healing the Whole Person

  • Body

Gentle yoga movement helps release tension, trauma, and stress held in the physical body — no prior yoga experience needed.

  • Breath

Breathwork and pranayama practices calm the nervous system and build the capacity to sit with discomfort without reaching for old coping patterns.

  • Mind

Mindfulness and meditation cultivate awareness, presence, and the ability to respond rather than react.

  • Community

A safe, non-judgmental space to connect with others who understand the journey — because recovery is not meant to be walked alone.

  • Spirit

12-Step principles provide a framework for meaning, purpose, and a connection to something greater than ourselves.

  • Resilience

Consistent practice builds the inner resources needed to navigate life's challenges without returning to old behaviours.
